A concert of Remembrance in the heart of Gloucestershire

Saturday 16 November 2019 at 7:30pm, Holy Trinity, Minchinhampton

Cantemus is very pleased to be returning to the delightful Cotswold market town of Minchinhampton, and the beautiful Holy Trinity church, to mark the season of Remembrance this year.

Highlights include the poignant Songs of Farewell, by Parry, written during the First World War in response to the deaths in action of many of his students, and the Pizzetti Requiem, which juxtaposes Gregorian chant against a 20th century harmonic language.

We will also perform Howells’ haunting Take Him, Earth for Cherishing, written in memory of John F Kennedy. Howells was born in nearby Lydney; his musical development was greatly influenced not only by Gloucester and its cathedral, but also the quintessential Cotswold landscape of Minchinhampton and its surroundings.

As is typical of Cantemus, the programme spans a wide range of musical eras and styles, from Baroque to contemporary. The concert programme is below.

Tickets are priced at £14 (OAP £10 and U18/unwaged £7) and are available from Ticket Source .

The programme: Tavener: Song for Athene Howells: Take him earth for cherishing. Pizzetti: Requiem Parry: Songs of Farewell Rutter: Hymn to the creator of light. Bach: Ich lasse dich nicht. Whitacre : Sleep.
