“Now there is something one can learn from!”
That was Mozart’s awestruck response on hearing Singet dem Herrn for the first time – and we hope our audience tonight will agree! We’re very excited to be performing J.S. Bach’s Six Great Motets in the lovely Dora Stoutzker Hall at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama at 7.30pm. Performing alongside us will be the fabulous Claudine Cassidy (cello, pictured) and John Cheer (organ).
We’re delighted that Claudine, who trained at the Royal Welsh College herself, will play a selection from Bach’s popular Cello Suites, while our very own Tabitha Rodway (soprano) will sing the enduringly popular “Bist du bei Mir.”
The full running order will be:
Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied (BWV 225)
Fürchte dich nicht, ich bin bei dir (BWV 228)
Claudine Cassidy plays
Allemande and Courantes (Cello Suite 1)
Tabitha Rodway sings
Bist du bei mir
Der Geist hilft unser Schwachheit auf (BWV 226)
Interval
Komm, Jesu, komm (BWV 229)
Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden (BWV 230)
Claudine Cassidy plays
Allemande and Courantes (Cello Suite 3)
Jesu, meine Freude (BWV 227)
Noted in the programme for the sake of completeness is another Motet now thought to be by J.S. Bach, the beautiful Ich lasse dich nicht (BWV appendix 159). But will we perform it? You’ll have to wait and see!
Tonight promises to be an unforgettable evening, so don’t miss a rare opportunity to hear these iconic works. Call the RWCMD box office to book your ticket on 02920 391391, or online via our events page. We look forward to seeing you there!
