We will performing a feast of Royal music, including Handel Zadok the Priest and Parry I was Glad, performed at the Jubilee
Thanksgiving Service.
There will be a rich and varied repertoire including composers from the Chapel Royal. Byrd, Gibbons, Tallis and Purcell and Handel stand alongside recent composers who have close royal connections.
Mendelssohn used to teach Queen Victoria’s children music and discuss compositions and compare notes with Prince Albert, who as well as being a philanthropist was a noted composer.
There is music by John Rutter, Welsh composers are well represented with music written for royal weddings by Mathias and Paul Mealor, and we celebrate the 450th anniversary of Thomas Tomkins, born in St David’s.
We also feature music by two Masters of the Queen’s Music, Edward Elgar and Judith Weir, as well music by our Music Director’s former colleague and mentor, John Scott, written to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee service held at St Paul’s Cathedral.
